What Widgets to Keep?

After reading Doug Karr’s story on firing the widgets from his blog, including the Technorati badge that he wrote himself, I finally decided to remove the BlogRush widgets from my sidebar.
I don’t have FuelMyBlog widget, so I don’t need to worry about that one. I didn’t install Doug’s Technorati badge here, since my server is still using an old version of PHP4, and not the PHP5 needed to run Doug’s Technorati badge. However, I did install it in my Indonesian language blog, 28oktober.net and, so far it looks great there! I will keep it for a while until someone convince me to take it down.
The only thing I hate about MyBlogLog is that, they wanted me to pay for my other blog after the 3 days trial period had ended, while I have already had this blog registered there. Why did they want me to register it per blog and not per username? I don’t think I need to pay for my Indonesian language blog while other blog such as blog-indonesia.com would promote it much better to the right audience.
BTW, one thing I noticed that the selection of the name starting with a numeric sans the www have put me into the first page of the Blogger List there. How did I know that was the case? When I changed that blog name from 28oktober.net/wordpress into www.28oktober.net, then when they got a new Feed and started to sort them, they would sort it through www, and guess what? I found that my new blog with www in the url was listed in page 80 or so on the Blogger List. For my Indonesian language readers, this is something you need to consider when you want to start a new blog and want to promote your new blog there.
However, I will also keep MyBlogLog widgets for a while, since like Doug, I love to see the faces of my visitors. Unfortunately, I really love the potrait that my daughter drew when she was in the grade school, so that’s the only picture of me that you can see now.
I would like to hear if you’ve any reason why you’d rather keep those widgets. Your idea could possibly make me change my mind. ![]()

Thanks for the link love! I think the bottom line is that there’s really no silver bullet. Great content, being involved in the blogosphere, and momentum are the keys to success.
