Tiny Eyes on the Skies

I was checking my emails and one email from Bruce MacDonald caught my attention. After visiting the link listed in Bruce’s email, out of curiousity I surfed that site and came across this page - Tiny Eyes on the Skies.

Wouw! I thought this is it! This is the kind of activities that I was looking for when I wrote this post few days ago. I then decided that once I rearrange the links of this blog, I would add this site into a permanent link on the left side bar.

Here is what you will find on the introduction at this site:

Do you like introducing young people to the wonders of the night sky? Are you interested in trying new and different equipment?

One of our goals here at Cloudy Nights is to introduce as many children as possible to the glory and wonder of that precious resource, our sky. To this end we have offered different programs over the past several years, and recently embarked on an annual program of equipment loan and outreach encouragement.

At the top of this page is our “Kid Counter”. This counter shows the number of children who have been lucky enough to see what the heavens are about courtesy of amateur astronomers like you. Won’t you join us in our attempts to showcase the beauty of the sky to a new generation of astronomers?

I remember few days ago, I asked a friend of mine if he ever showed the ISS passing to his kids. He said, yes.

- What was their reactions? I asked.

- They just said,… but Dad, it’s just another airplane!

Yes, my kids didn’t enthuse about satellite passing either when they were young. It will take some extra efforts to impress and showcase the beauty of night sky or the marvel of those huge metal chunks flying across the nice sky. Only very few lucky ones would have that opportunity that would affect them long after the event. You and I could help these young kids if we can work with the Tiny Eyes on the Skies team or doing some thing in the spirit they described in the site.
