PSU and CIC announce landmark deal

I was surfing the net and came across this video on the landmark deal between Committe of Institutional Cooperation (CIC) and Google. They are going to digitize all the non copyright or out of copyright books in the 12 Big-10 university plus U Chicago Libraries in collaboration with Google.  This will mean they are going to digitize somewhere between 7 to 10 millions books to preserve the library legacy collections that will then be shared between all these libraries. There would be no advertising. Indeed, I remember the video someone put out few months ago on “Don’t be evil.”

However, if I imagine that all the collections in the rare books section of Pattee Library could be accessed from my home without going to University Park, PA, I can’t wait this project to be completed.
