Missing a good ISS pass this evening

img_0056_a.jpgFor almost 10 days, if it was not time conflict, then there was no pass, rainy or even tornadic evening. That’s why a prediction of ISS passing from NW to SE this evening according to Heavens-above have made me excited over the past few days. Unfortunately when I went out to check the sky some 15 minutes before the time, most part of the sky was covered by thin layer of clouds and there was no stars at all. Even the moon was hiding behind the thin cloud and I could only get a blurry edge.

passgtracklargegraphic.jpgMy last call to Master Clock number (202) 762-1401 at Naval Observatory was at 18:17. Heavens-above gave the 10 degree Altitude at 18:18:36. When I hang up my cell phone and look at the predicted direction, the ISS was just rising some 20 degree over the horizon and flying with a variable brightness, in and out from the cloud. It gave me a feeling that the pass was slightly north than it should be. I expected that it would pass right over my head.

I have just got a new Canon PowerShot A540 when we have our Church 25th Anniversary Celebration in February 17. But I was not ready with the right setting to catch the image yet. Can’t wait for the next chance.
