Some of my old friends may recall what we did to help Lukas Mbira, a boy from Sumba island to get his thyroid tumor removed by the team of Singaporean doctors under the leadership of Dr. Goh Yau Hong, in collaboration with Dr. Maria Tan and her team at New Beginning Church of Singapore.
This morning, I called Dr. Maria Tan since two members of our Bolelebo mailing list were asking for help for Gratia Rondo, a young baby born with a heart problem known as Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). I haven’t had contact with Dr. Tan for almost two years, but I know Dr. Tan and her team in New Beginning Church of Singapore would be the starting point to ask for help. It was almost 10:30PM in Singapore when I got her phone number from Pastor Steven of her church. I woke her up and Dr. Tan asked me to tell the parent to call her. While I was reintroduced myself, she then told me that Lukas has just gone thru another operation due to the problem with his breathing. I was surprised since I thought Lukas would be doing okay by now. They plan to have the surgery sometime later but it turned out that Lukas had a breathing difficulty, they took him to the ER and doctor decided to go ahead with the surgery. I could only thank Dr. Maria and her team that have brought Lukas back to Singapore.
As far as Gratia’s story goes, I have contacted her mom and dad, and gave them Dr. Tan’s phone number. I hope they can get in touch with Dr. Tan to get a surgery as soon as possible. I’m going to keep in touch with Gratia’s parent and their friends to see if they can start a fund raising to help them with the surgery.
I also got an email from Captain Budi Suhardi of Roslin Orphanage that he had also contacted the parents and will talk to Dr. Maria Tan tomorrow. Thanks Captain Budi. Seems like we have had a good start.
