Kita Guni Video Parade

Thirty-year ago today, I landed at Chitose Airport, in Hokkaido. Kus who had been a year there at Hokkudai went with Masaaki Imai Sensei to pick me up and took me to the campus. Time flies. Recently, the Tefas from Kobe sent me the DVD of the 58th Kouhaku Utagazzen, or the Annual Music Show on the New Years Eve. I could pick out some of my favorite Enka Singers such as Sayuri Ishikawa, Shin-ichi Mori, etc. I saw the wrinkles in Shin-ichi’s forhead or the grey hair of Saburo Kitajima. Well, most of you would not know who these people are. I’m putting these video for all my long lost comrades that I met in the snow country, Hokkaido.

The first choise of course is Tsugaru Kaikyo of Sayuri Ishikawa. Henry Uy, the dentist from Manila, are you there? Do you still remember when we sang it outloud at Kita 12 Jo Ryugakusei Kaikan? I heard from Mimie-san of Hokkudai that they are going to build a new hospital over that area. Kaikan will be gone soon.

The next one of course is Kita Guni no Haru. Sandra Christine Lindstrom, where are you? I have been in the US for almost 20 years now. I saw in the address book I received from Hokkudai some 16 years ago that you were in Sunney, BC. Would you be able to find this page one day? Matte irru yo!

If you prefer the scenary of Hokkaido, please see my Indonesian version of the parade. You will see the late Teresa Teng’s version of Kitaguni no Haru instead.

The next one, Shiretoko Ryojo is my favorite song. My onshi, Prof. Yoshihiro Ohtsuka and I used to sing it together during the compa. Tottemo natsukashi da!

Well, there was Liliana Munoz from Costarica. Are you out there, Liliana? Do you still remember these songs? Ibu Eka, Mas Kuncoro, bung Risman Situmeang. Where are you guys now? Toshio Ichihara of Brazil. Are you out there too?

The next one is still about Hokkaido. Erimo Misaki by Shin-ichi Mori. Henry Uy, you should remember this song well.

What about the Matsuri guy, our Saburo Kitajima-san. Instead of Kaeru Kana, I have chosen this Fusetsu Nagare Tabi, the journey in snow storm. Hopefully you guy also enjoy it like me.

Last but not least, this is the favorite song of my wife and me. Kimi to Itsu Made Mo, Together with you, forever of Yuzo Kayama. (Note: This song of course is not in Kitaguni category, but we love it.)

Hope some of you my friends would see your name in this post or watch the video and get in touch with me. Ogenki-de!

    Dear Liliana,

I’m glad that finally someone responded to my posting. I’ve emailed you few hours ago, and I’ll email again later.

Do you still remember Carlos Nakamura (? I think), Toshio Honda, Sylvia Gillett(? now Suzuki?), Avasthi Kamlakar, Sandra Lindstrom, Elvira Sanches (?), etc?

It was 30 years ago, and we were a little younger at that time, weren’t we?

Hope we can get more of Ryugakusei-san from that time responded to this post. Who knows one day we could go back to Hokkudai for a reunion?

    Best,
