Jakarta Flashmod – they did it!

by drt on October 12, 2010

Most of the times, I’d skip the Facebook video. However, the simple comment my cyber friend Sylvana has posted on this particular video had caught my attention:

Cool flash mob – makes me miss Jakarta for once :-)

As soon as the video started, I recalled the Antwerp Station Sound of Music dance I saw in youtube early last year.

Yes, honestly, I didn’t know if it was called a flashmob.

The Welcome to Jakarta Statue way back in the background suddenly reminded me those days when I had an office at the other end of the Jenderal Sudirman boulevard. Very nostalgic! That then prompted me to post a congratulatory note to the organizer of this flashmob on my Indonesian blog. However, it’s really an amazing video and I’d like to share my joy with y’all, and here we go.

From their website I also learned that this flashmob was organized by the Jakarta Flashmod group. They even have a 3-part short tutorial videos on youtube to prepare for this special event on October 10, 2010.

To me, these young men and women had done a great job. Forget about the merits for a moment. Their ability to organize this event alone is worth a compliment. At least they have placed their beloved city and the enthusiasm of these fun loving young Indonesians on the world map. Their youtube video is going viral now. My salute to these talented young men and women who have made this event possible.

If you’re interested in organizing a flashmob in your city or your campus, here are some of the useful references:

Once again, congratulation for a job well done, and Rika, you’re a great instructor! :-)
