Have You Seen My Alexa Ranking?

Well, it may mean nothing to you. However, yesterday I was thinking of taking down the Alexa widget from my sidebar. I was tired looking at the number there. Instead of going down like what was mentioned in all the advices on how to increase your Alexa Ranking that I could find on the Internet, the number indeed went up, contrary to what I’d like to see. The number should be going down to show that my rank was going up. However, there was one thing that puzzled me, when I clicked on the widget and went to my Alexa traffic detail page:

Why was my rank in other countries only a tenth of that number in the widget?

If you go to my first posting on Alexa-ranking, the widget provided a rank of 4,401,660 on May 20th, then went up to 5,530,527. Yesterday I was a bit frustrated looking at the number that went to 5,560,000 range.

Luckily, the puzzle of the numbers at the bottom of Alexa page, showing the rank in other countries has prevented me from taking the widget down. You see, it was less than 500,000. Not only that, my “other countries” listed there was the United States. What’s going on here? Please compare the same info with my Indonesian language blog in the picture below.

At the end, my waiting to not removing the widget turns out to be positive. As of now the number has already jumped to 2,110,259 as you can see in the sidebar. However, for the record so we can trace back in a later date, I have saved that image an inserted it here.

It takes 17 days to get down from 4,401,660 to this number. A big jump of 2,291,101. But hey, at least it works the way it was supposed to be! No complaint. :-)

A very real good web, managed by a man who is having “gold heart”, has pity compassion. God will bless him and his family.

Alexa ranking is not very precise, at least in the volumes you got.
Especially foreign countries tend to be more difficult.
Why? Simply because not many people are using a toolbar giving back data. It seems to be more popular in the US.

On the other hand, if someone (I mean 1) from Indonesia comes to your site, maby returning 2 times, he will already give you a decent share …

There is some controversy over how representative Alexa’s user base is of typical Internet behavior. If http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?url=www.fortunehotels.in Alexa’s user base is a fair statistical sample of the internet user population, Alexa’s ranking should be quite accurate.
