Google honored Yuri Gagarin

I was so busy last week and haven’t updated my blog for the past few days. Yesterday I was thinking of writing about Yuri Gagarin launching anniversary after reading the email from Christian Krjnet. I went to check and indeed I saw that Google had honored Yuri Gagarin by the picture shown in the left. However, I got distracted and didn’t have time to touch my blog or visited other blogs. Today, of course that Google Gagarin logo wasn’t there any more. Fortunately thanks to Google and a quick search will take you to various sites carrying this picture.
This is what I wrote few years ago about Yuri Gagarin:
I also remember that soon after Gagarin’s first flight, as a schoolboy in the fourth or fifth grade, I wrote a letter to him. However, that letter was one of the laughing material for the adults around me and I doubt it ever reached Yuri Gagarin. This matter had never been brought up again in my family, after the political turmoil in 1965 in Indonesia, where no one would like to deal with anything related to the former Soviet Union or PR China.
Looking at this old video and following all the most recent flight activities, I know that many progresses have been made since Gagarin’s time, or even since the Shuttle Inaugural flight back in 1981. The shuttle for example has experienced significant changes over the years. With more than 100 successful flights and the loss of two vehicles and astronaut crews, NASA has continued to add safety upgrades to the shuttles for its missions to complete the International Space Station. To me, all space flight are still the same. Every single flight is a huge project that need the contributions and hard works of so many people. And of course, it’s dangerous too where many of our space heroes had given their ultimate gifts - their own life.
From the Internet I know that the ISS crew also honored Yuri Gagarin first flight or Cosmonout Day in Russia this year like what they have done in the past few years.

Finding time to blog can be a major task. Especially traveling. I just got back from Florida this past monday and felt like I had to restart some relationships because I had been away for about a week and a half.
