Go Senator, Go!

What are these NY city kids doing down here?

That thought crossed my mind when I saw these red T-shirt kids before boarding the plane this morning. In few occasions I have met young kids came as far as NY or MN alone, then being picked up at the plane door by the staffs of Space Camp or Space and Rocket Center - which would easily be recognized from the blue astronaut-like uniform or other attributes. In addition, on my way home yesterday, I saw many kids with Space Camp uniforms across the hall. May be these red T-shirt kids were the same young kids that I saw yesterday.

I was sitting in the back of the plane, and these red T-shirt kids filled up almost the whole front section of the plane. Sitting with me were a middle age couple with the lady on the window side, her husband in the middle and me on the isle. It wasn’t until I started the conversation with this couple that I became aware that these kids were not NY city kids but Sparkman High School student choir members that were on their way to sing at Carnegie Hall in NY. That explained why that NY or NYC printed in their T-shirt.

Wouw!

I remember my younger kids loved the choir during their middle school years. Not because they love to sing, but they loved to travel with their classmates, and the school choir had taken them to the places that even we parent had never gone before.

My youngest son went White Water rafting with his choir team mates when their team went to Colorado. My daughter once pulled out the picture she took from the Empire State building or other high rise building in NY, showing the Twin Towers far in the horizon. Yes, the choir went to NY too, but she was too young at that time to remember whether it was at Carnegie Hall or other place.

The gentleman beside me turned out to be Mr. Manuel Wallace, the Principal of Sparkman High School. I told him I was very proud of what these kids and their teachers have done, and I told Mr. Wallace that if he doesn’t mind, I would like to take a team picture when we got off the plane in Atlanta and put it in my blog. He didn’t mind and here are the pictures:

After taking these pictures, we parted. They were heading north and I was heading south. Tonight I did a little search and went to Sparkman High School official site and Wikipedia. According to Mr. Wallace, they are going to perform at Carnegie Hall this Monday night, and they also have a plenty of times for sight seeing. I’m sure that would leave a long lasting memory for these kids, and I wish them best of luck.
