Amazing Animation of ISS Assembly

by drt on July 16, 2009

Except the links to Sex in Space in my last post, it has been a while since I’ve posted anything related to Satellites or the International Space Station — the original topics that had brought me into the blogosphere. That’s why when I saw the successful launch of Space Shuttle Endeavor this evening, I thought it may be good to show the animation of the International Space Station Assembly. At least it would show how the Space Station has evolved from a single module to such a large complex in the past 10 years. After a quick search, I also found that the same animation has been posted in youtube, which made my job to embed it here much easier.

After watching this video, wouldn’t you agree that the ISS is a big piece of engineering marvel?

These 11 pages show a collection of the best shuttle mission imagery that point out significant changes in the configuration of the station. This page show the ISS Assembly past flights, where you can read all the details.

This wikipedia file shows the ISS Configuration with color coded components. Those in orange are the components currently on board, while those in blue and pink are still waiting to be taken to the ISS. However, some of the components such as JEM Exposed Facility that is still appeared in blue is on its way with Endeavor to the ISS right now. I hope you enjoy the animation, and let’s wish a successful mission for Endeavor and her crew!
