Again, please ask them too, when was your last physical?

I went to work this afternoon and it was a very busy day, so I didn’t check my email until very late in the evening. The first thing that caught my eyes was the subject: The arrangement for Eric. I said what? Oh, no! A scary thought gave me a goose bump. I scanned through the list, and few emails down to the bottom, it confirmed my fear. My colleague Eric just passed away for a massive heart attack!
Eric was four years younger than me. You would not believe that he would have a heart attack since I never thought that he would be in the risky category list. At least that was what I thought. He was lean, he seem to not having any health problem, and I really didn’t expect him to go that soon.
After receiving that dreadful call on Christmas morning last year and few episodes afterward, I posted an entry on When was your last physical? That’s kind of the question I hope you would ask people at my age group, the baby boomers group around you.
Due to my fondness of John Chow’s community, I get to know many young people like Saman, Jane, Michael and many more that I consider are very young. I believe that when they would visit this site and seeing this entry, they may just simply skip it thinking NO, this is NOT my problem. After all they may think:
‘I’m young, …’
‘I can drink that toxic sodas all day long,…’
‘ I can eat 10 lbs burger for my breakfast, my lunch and my dinner, …’
‘ I’m immortal….’
But, please, there may be someone you love, you parents, your uncles, aunts, or even your grandparents that are actually in my age group.
Please, please, please, I beg you….., please ask them, when was your last physical and encourage them to go to get their blood work. Make sure their cholesterol numbers are good, their sugar levels are low and their blood pressures are within the normal range. At least go to get their doctors’ opinion. Doctor may find a lot of information that would help them if it’s detected early.
That’s all I ask you to do to your love one if you’re too young to worry about healths problem like us – the baby boomers that I describe here. I will make it my mission from now on to chase every one I know to go to get their physical exam at least once a year.
I was so sad, and I was kind of mad. After my friend passed away and the other two were recuperating from heart attacks as mentioned in the post mentioned above, I could only blamed the health care system in my old home country. But this is the United States of America. We ain’t no third world country as some of my friends would say it here….Why?
Yes, I know. We may argue that the Good Lord has His own agenda, and there is a time for every thing under the sun, and honestly, I don’t know the answer. But at least, we try.
I’m sad, I’m really sad tonight.
I will close this post with a little prayer, and say:
“Good bye my friend, Eric. Requiescat in Pace.”

I actually ask that questions constantly! Especially since my parents are nearing their 70’s I am constantly on them and other family members to take care of themselves and be on their check ups.
I appreciate the mention and good cause.
My father passed away suddenly. he had very very healthy eating and lifestyle habits. but he had a heart condition that was kept secret from the family. And he put off the tests too long. If we had known we would have badgered him every year.
It’s been about two years for me, I get regular cholesterol test though and always to well!! I have noticed my belly’s getting a little bit bigger though lately…
